Template notice: This policy was drafted from the features described on accidentbuddy.com. Replace the bracketed placeholders, confirm every statement matches how the app actually works, and have a qualified attorney review it before publishing.
1. Who we are and scope
Accident Buddy (“Accident Buddy,” “AB,” “we,” “us”) is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [ADDRESS], [CITY, STATE ZIP]. This Privacy Policy applies to the Accident Buddy mobile application for iOS and Android (the “App”), the website at accidentbuddy.com (the “Site”), and related support services (together, the “Service”).
By using the Service you agree to this Privacy Policy and to our Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account details: name, email address, phone number, and password when you register. You may also continue as a guest with limited features.
- Incident records: video, photos, audio, written descriptions, accident diagrams, pain diagrams, dates, times, and the location of an incident you choose to document.
- Witness and involved-party information: names, contact details, and audio or text statements you collect from other people. You are responsible for having their permission to record and store this information (see Section 4).
- Police and insurance details: report numbers, officer names, policy numbers, and other claim-related information you enter.
- Emergency contacts: names and phone numbers you add so the App can notify them.
- Purchases: items ordered through the in-app shop (for example dashcams, braces, pain relief) and shipping address. Payment card details are processed by our payment provider and are not stored by us.
- Communications: messages you send to support or through the in-app “Speak with your Buddy” assistant.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Location data: precise GPS location when you record an incident, tag a witness statement, search for nearby providers, or use accident detection. You control location permission in your device settings.
- Motion and sensor data: if you enable accident detection, the App reads accelerometer and gyroscope data to detect a possible collision.
- Device and usage data: device model, operating system version, app version, language, unique device identifiers, crash logs, and which features you use.
- Dashcam data: footage transferred from a compatible Bluetooth dashcam you have paired with the App.
2.3 Information from third parties
- Confirmation from the Apple App Store or Google Play that a purchase or subscription was completed.
- Basic profile information if you sign in with a third-party identity provider (where offered).
3. How we use information
| Purpose | Examples |
|---|---|
| Provide the Service | Store and timestamp your footage, build incident reports, sync dashcam video, find nearby providers, process shop orders. |
| Safety features | Detect possible accidents, auto-dial your emergency contact, send SMS alerts you have configured. |
| Share evidence at your request | Generate secure links you send to insurers, attorneys, or police. |
| Referrals and premium features | Count successful “Share this App” invitations and unlock premium features you have earned. |
| Support and communication | Respond to your questions, send service notices, security alerts, and order updates. |
| Improve and secure the Service | Debug crashes, analyze aggregate usage, prevent fraud and abuse. |
| Legal compliance | Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, enforce our Terms. |
We do not use your incident footage, witness statements, or health-related details for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Recording, location and Bluetooth
Recording other people. Laws on recording audio and video vary by state and country. Some states require the consent of everyone being recorded. You are solely responsible for complying with applicable recording and privacy laws when you capture footage or witness statements, and for obtaining any consent that is required.
Location. Location is only accessed when you use a feature that needs it. You can withdraw location permission at any time in your device settings; some features (provider search, GPS-tagged statements, accident detection) will then not work.
Bluetooth dashcams. Pairing a dashcam allows the App to receive footage over Bluetooth. We do not access other Bluetooth devices. Footage stays on your device until you choose to upload it to your account.
Accident detection. This feature runs only when you enable it and may use motion sensors in the background. False positives are possible. Always confirm your safety directly with emergency services; the App is not a substitute for calling 911.
5. When we share information
We share personal information only in the following situations, and never without your consent except where required by law:
- At your direction: when you send a secure evidence link to an insurer, attorney, or police department; call or book a provider from the App; or share a report by email or SMS.
- Service providers: cloud hosting, encrypted storage, payment processing, order fulfilment, analytics, crash reporting, and customer support vendors who act on our instructions and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Providers you contact: when you tap to call or book urgent care, chiropractors, attorneys, tow trucks, or body shops, your contact details are shared with that provider. Their use of your data is governed by their own privacy policies.
- Emergency contacts: the people you add receive the alerts and location you configure.
- Legal reasons: to comply with a subpoena, court order, or lawful request; to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or Accident Buddy.
- Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy’s commitments.
- Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably identify you.
6. Share & Unlock referrals
When you use “Share this App,” the App opens your SMS, email, or social app with a pre-written invitation. We do not import or store your contact list. We record only that an invitation was sent and whether the recipient installs the App through your link, so we can unlock 30 days of premium features once five friends join. Please only invite people who would want to hear from you.
7. Security
Footage, logs, and personal data are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel, logged, and reviewed. Evidence links are time-limited and unguessable. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong password, keep your device updated, and tell us immediately at support@accidentbuddy.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
8. Retention and deletion
- Incident records remain in your account until you delete them, so they are available for the life of a claim.
- You can delete any recording, log, statement, or your entire account at any time in Settings → Privacy inside the App, or by emailing us. Deletion from live systems happens immediately; encrypted backups are purged within [30] days.
- Guest-mode data stored only on your device is removed when you uninstall the App.
- Order and payment records are kept for [7] years to meet tax and accounting obligations.
- We may retain limited information where required by law or to resolve disputes.
9. Your privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA and other laws)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended) gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and to receive a copy of it;
- Delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions;
- Correct inaccurate personal information;
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information (such as precise location and health-related details) to what is necessary to provide the Service, which is already our practice;
- Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
Residents of other U.S. states (including Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia, Texas, and Oregon) and of the EU/UK may have similar rights. To exercise any right, use Settings → Privacy in the App or email support@accidentbuddy.com with the subject “Privacy Request.” We will verify your identity using your account email and respond within 45 days. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of personal information described in Section 2 for the purposes in Section 3, and disclosed them to the recipients in Section 5. We have not sold personal information.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age applies), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Third-party services
The App links to or integrates with third-party services such as map providers, payment processors, app stores, and the healthcare, legal, towing, and repair providers listed in the App. We do not control and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review their policies before sharing information with them.
The Site uses only strictly necessary cookies and Google Fonts. We do not run third-party advertising trackers on the Site.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If changes are material we will notify you in the App or by email before they take effect, and update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the revised policy.
